In this historical X-ray from the Boer War (which lasted from 1899 to 1902), a soldier’s foot has been penetrated by a Mauser bullet. The bullet is lodged between metatarsal bones; however, the bullet has miraculously not broken any bones.  The deformation of the toes may or may not had been due to the bullet, as tight army boots and long marches infamously create unnatural pressures on the foot.
