Even Mars is feeling the love on Valentine’s Day. Photographed by the Mars Global Surveyor in 1999, this heart-shaped geographic wonder within Mars’s crust was actually caused by a collapse in a graben, which is a straight-walled trough along a fault line. At its widest point, the pit is 1.4 miles across, and it rests along the slopes of the Alba Patera volcano.
